The much-anticipated second edition of the Global Prize Innovation in Desalination (GPID) has reached its climactic finale during the Innovation Water Driven Sustainability Conference (IDWSC), taking place from November 25-27, 2024 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The ceremony was attended by H.H. Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz (Deputy Governor of Makkah Region, Saudi Arabia) and H.E. Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen AlFadley (Minister of Environment, Water, Agriculture, Saudi Arabia).
Under the leadership of H.E. Eng. Abdullah Alabdulkareim, President of the Saudi Water Authority, GPID has emerged as a global platform for trailblazing solutions in water sustainability, which was made possible thanks to the contribution of many, including TEHA Group. TEHA's team was led by Valerio De Molli, alongside Alessandro Viviani, Corrado Panzeri, Matteo Radice, Arianna Basso, Ting Ting Stella Chen, Esmeralda Leyva, and Roberta Braccio.
Since its inception, GPID has connected with over 5,000 innovators and received an impressive 500+ applications, affirming its status as a hub for groundbreaking ideas. This year’s GPID stands as the world’s largest prize for water innovation, inspiring innovators worldwide with a mission to address one of humanity's most pressing challenges.
At this year’s IDWSC, we proudly congratulate the 2 Grand Prize Winners and 12 Impact Prize Winners who have exemplified outstanding innovation, creativity, and commitment to advancing desalination technology and water sustainability. These exceptional individuals and teams were selected from 32 shortlisted finalists.
As part of its ongoing mission to drive innovation, the GPID is now expanding its scope to become the Global Prize Innovation in Water (GPIW). This evolution reflects a steadfast commitment to tackling broader water challenges beyond desalination, ensuring sustainability and resilience for future generations.
Desalination is a transformative process that meets the global demand for fresh water by converting seawater into potable water using advanced technologies. With 97% of Earth’s water in oceans, Desalination is crucial for overcoming freshwater scarcity. Through methods like reverse osmosis and distillation, it removes salt, providing a sustainable solution. The Global Prize for Innovation in Water Desalination (GPID) recognizes and rewards significant contributions in water desalination, inspiring others to join its mission for sustainable water solutions. Its ultimate goal is to contribute to a sustainable world by fostering innovation and advancing desalination technologies.
