Private Labels and the Consumer in a Changing Society

Tuesday, April 12, 2022 - Bolognafiere, Bologna

To define the major scenarios of the future that involve the Modern Distribution sector, with special focus on the issue of Private Labels (PLs) as the key tool for the development of the entire sector. This was the starting point that five years ago launched the collaboration between The European House - Ambrosetti and ADM - Associazione Distribuzione Moderna (Modern Distribution Association) and which, year after year, has been the protagonist of the opening meeting of Marca, the international trade fair of Private Label products organized in the setting of Bolognafiere.

This year, the event took place on April 12, 2022. During the event, we presented the findings of the strategic study titled Private Labels and the Consumer in a Changing Societyprepared by The European House - Ambrosetti in collaboration with ADM - Associazione Distribuzione Moderna. The study includes a survey carried out in cooperation with IPSOS that explores various aspects from a unique perspective involving the value of Private Labels—that of the consumer.

The study analyses the contribution of Private Labels to the creation of value for the Country, highlighting their importance to the sustainable growth of the agri-food chain. The analysis explores the relationship of the consumer with Private Labels in the aftermath of the COVID-19 crisis, the evolution of consumer preferences expected for the coming years and their impact on the Private Labels' offer.

In addition to the results of the study, the following topics were discussed among the speakers:

  • What is the contribution of PL to the creation of value for the Country
  • What is the contribution of PL within the extended agri-food chain
  • What economic and social scenario awaits us in the upcoming months and what impact it will have on food consumption
  • What is the role and value of PL for the consumer
  • What are the future developments of consumer preferences and what kind of impact they will have on the PL offer
